An
educational web site for students, teachers, and
parents
Much has been said about the
United States and Confederate involvement in the Civil War during
this period of struggle in our nation's history. School children from
elementary to high school level have endured the presentation of this
historically significant event, but most never come away with a
genuine understanding or appreciation of this great
turmoil. It has no relevance to their
lives. After all, this is Iowa, and what does Iowa have to do with
the Civil War? And why would I, over 100 years later, want to know
about it?
We're
glad you asked!
In an effort to localize,
humanize, and personalize the very real people and events of the
Civil War, the developers of this web site have designed a place
where Iowa students can find out about what happened in the locations
where they now live, who the Iowans were who were involved, why Iowa
citizens fought, what they were feeling, and perhaps even find
connections to their lives through the names of Iowa ancestors who
were there.
